His Womanly Ways
by K. Lynn
206 pages / 65000 words
ISBN: 978-1-61040-916-2
$5.49

Blurb:
Alex is a womanizer. He makes no excuses for it. Yes, he picks up women at the local bar, leaving them with just a memory of a good night and a good lay, but he hasn't had any complaints yet. That is, until he picks up the wrong woman. Not satisfied to be tossed aside as just another notch in Alex's bedpost, she curses him, wishing he “knew what it was like for a woman.” And he's about to find out what she means, embarking on a genderswap journey that he can't stop.

Alex starts slowly gaining secondary female characteristics. Waking up with his cock gone, replaced by a vagina, was bad enough. Then it gets worse, as his body becomes more like a woman than the man he used to be. Alex tries to hide the changes he's going through, for fear that someone will discover his secret, but keeping this quite literally “under wraps” might be impossible before the curse runs its course.

With the help of his female best friend, Eve, Alex tries to deal with who he is becoming. He feels like he's lost his identity, his mind not matching the body he now has. But Eve sticks by him, and they become closer as Alex's changes progress. What started out as friendship may become something more before Alex's journey is over. Perhaps this curse was actually a blessing in disguise.

Coming Out Catholic
by Alex Dunkin
Pages: 174 / Words: 90800
ISBN:978-1-61040-920-9
$4.99

Blurb:
Like all good Catholic boys I care what Jesus thinks. Jesus -- both the man and the faith. Following him makes me happy. There’s just one issue… I think I’m gay. Well, it’s hard to be sure while going to an all-boys school. It could be a matter of simply liking what I know, and really, oh so very much liking what I see all day -- guys. Being gay and Catholic can’t possibly work together. Can it?

Coming Out Catholic follows a year in the life of a private Catholic school student as he comes to terms with his sexuality. Armed with sarcasm and his best friend Mark, he prepares to take on the school thug and the awkward social encounters plaguing his late teenage years.

Confronting himself and his family are just the beginning of his trials. He finds he must find solace with his sexual desires without surrendering any of his faith. He loves both too much to deny either one, but when the time comes he will have to decide if he must turn away from one and prepare to succumb to a life of denial, or if, by some miracle, he can find acceptance for both within himself.

WRITERS WRITE... WRITING PARTNERS FEUD ~ Review 4 by Tattle and Wrye

We are in our review mode and will be presenting our alter egos, Dona Penza Tattle, Esq. and Associate Wrye Balderdash and their reviews for Champagne Books Group for over the next several weeks.  Enjoy!

FROM THE DESK OF

DONA PENZA TATTLE, ESQ.

AND

ASSOCIATE WRYE BALDERDASH

Greetings,

Tattle stares out at the snow blown scenery beyond the office window.  "I like snow when we're warm and comfy inside."  She turns to watch Wrye boot up.  "Do you know how to keep snow from giving you cold feet?"
Wrye gives the questioning eyebrow lift.  "Huh?"
"You don't go round Brrrr-footed.  Tee hee."
"Snoooow-funny m’snow bunny.  What do snowmen eat for breakfast?"
"Easy...Frosted Flakes but what does the snowman eat with icebergs?  Chilli sauce," she quipped before he could respond.  "I can put out snowman jokes all day."
"But you won't, know why?"
"Cause is it our Love of Literature Leap into a Burst Books review?"
He hands Tattle her coat, hat and gloves.  "Let's ride like a snowman and get there using a By-icicle!"

Tattle groans as they leap into Olga Godim's fantasy ALMOST ADEPT.

Tattle settles next to the character Eriale behind the curtains as the young magician spies on Gordin, the nobleman who had smitten her.  Tattle winces as he insults Eriale to his comrades, and then can't help giggling when Eriale turns him into a muttonhead.
"That's not funny," Wrye says despite his grin.  "Her father, Aram, is a mage, her mother, Leyale, is a healer and her sister, Tamara, is the Queen, not one of them is going to be happy.  The girl is in trrrrrrrouble!"
"But look at her, a spitfire, a rebel, not to mention adorable wee bit of a thing!  Trouble with her, me thinks, makes for good reading.  Besides, the sheep spell will wear off in a week and the toad deserved it."  Tattle ponders a moment.  "Maybe, she should have used the toad spell."
Wrye double-finger-tipped his temple, like a salute to her wisdom.  "You'd be right, m'danger-questing bud, errr not about the toad spell but about this page-flipping book.  It yanks you in and holds you fast.  All Eriale wanted from Gordin was a decent romp to end her bothersome virginity.  The one thing holding her back from applying for Adept testing, which would make her a full magician in the Guild's eyes, and now that will have to be put on hold while she unknots the fix she just put herself into."
A twinkle forms in Tattle's eyes.  "Will she become Adept?  Won't she?  Is there anyone worthy to take her virginity?"
"Maybe the hunka hottie courier who shows up at her door with a parchment for her father.  At least, she thinks the man is a possibility.  Only, Kealan isn't just a courier, but used to be a Captain of the High Guard, the elite fighting force of the Grumesh Republic.  Now, conquered by the Roodim Empire, all the nobility of Grumesh along with high ranking military are being systematically slaughtered including children and babies!  Kealan, using Grumesh's hidden treasurer has been relocating his kinsmen and setting them up in new lives.  He has no time for an unruly little mage in training."
With a twirl of skirt and a wink, Tattle spurts, "Ah ha!  Look at this," points to a scene, "her father to the rescue... ummm... kinda... sorta.  Aram receives a request for help from the same area he had intended to send Eriale to keep her from the repercussions of her unauthorized spell.  People are missing.  There is suspicion that the Empire might have concocted a new spell or a new weapon.  As a Jouneyman, Eriale is qualified to investigate and uncover the truth."
"This is the perfect quest for Eriale," Wrye agrees, "and despite her mother's protests, she is soon on her way.  Actually, officially running away from her own troubles to everyone else's eyes but on a true quest for her father.  However, she is just suppose to report back.  Eriale being Eriale, instead involves herself to the nth degree, including helping Kealan escape from jail and becoming involved in his own dire circumstances.  Somehow, their troubles become interlocked and...."
"Oh no you don't."    Wrye yanks her out of the story.  "Let the readers take pleasure in uncovering the plot on their own.  They will enjoy every twist and turn, every interlude and every ominous misstep.  If you like fantasy, it will cater to those spell-twirling needs.  If you like adventure, it'll have you clamoring after every word.  And if you like a touch of romance, you'll find just enough to trigger a swoon."
"Yes, yes, yes!  As a consummate fantasy reader, I highly recommend ALMOST ADEPT.  Olga Godim's writing style is like being on a sled ride, downward on a steep hill, without brakes.  It is smooth, racy, and breathless.  You simply don't want to put the book aside.  The only hitch is if you start reading it at night, prepare yourself to greet the dawn without having a bit of sleep."
"I enjoyed that!" Wrye exclaims.
"Me too!" returns Tattle.  "Everyone should be to read CBG constantly!"

Until next month, keep reading.

A VIXEN IN VENICE by Kate Deveaux

Glancing down at the small map she clutched in one hand, Monique looked back up at the tiny storefronts crammed along the waterway, trying her best not to be overrun by the barrage of tourists filling the tight corridors that ran between buildings and the canal’s murky edge. Searching for landmarks and any discernable signage, she bumped her way between tourists who were busy ogling the unusual architecture that at that moment proved more of an impediment than an attractant. Tugging at her suitcases, Monique forged on. The last thing she wanted to do was be late for her new job. Lurching sideways to avoid a family carrying ice cream cones and pointing enthusiastically at the sights, Monique teetered on her heels to avoid bearing the brunt of their gelatos as they passed. Oblivious to the obstacle they presented to Monique, they carried on, leaving her in their wake. The wheels on her cumbersome luggage stuck on a rogue stone at the same time her heel gave way. Tumbling down towards the uneven cobbles Monique gasped out loud. A hand reached out from the crowd and grabbed for her just as her bottom grazed the ground, protecting her from the brunt of her fall by swooping her back up on her feet in one motion. “Mademoiselle, soyez prudent,” a deep voice urged her to be careful in French. Monique squinted into the late day sun at nothing short of a vision. A majestic man, early forties, with chin length sandy blonde hair, a goatee and deep set blue eyes that were rimmed by thin metal glasses stood before her. Her hand clasped in his. The man’s tailored camelhair overcoat told her he was distinguished as did the flash of his fancy watch, probably Swiss and very expensive from the sparkle of the crystal that caught her eye as she steadied herself. “Stai bene Signorina?” he asked if she was okay in a beautiful swoosh of Italian. The words slipping between his lips like honey pooling onto the cool stones. First he spoke French, then Italian. It was official. Monique must be in heaven. She’d heard the stereotypes and the holiday stories of her friends vacationing in Europe, but nothing had prepared her for the man who still had her hand in his. “Fine, yes, thank you, merci…I mean grazie,” she offered, flustered and realizing she was quite able to stand on her own. Reluctantly she let go of his hand to reach down and remove her broken-heeled shoe. “Just tripped on a stone. Una scarpa verso il bass… dieci per andare.” She hoped her Italian wasn’t too rusty. He just looked at her. Oh damn, it must be more rusty than she’d thought. One shoe down, ten to go,” she repeated in English with a nervous laugh, motioning to her luggage. Hoping to make a joke of how many shoes were crammed in her overstuffed bags to cover her embarrassment of very nearly being splayed out on the canal sidewalk if not for the efforts of her handsome saviour. “Are you sure? I can fetch someone for you if you need assistance Signorina,” the man asked and then glanced anxiously over his shoulder. Monique suspected from his unease that he must have a wife who no doubt would appear any moment and be less than happy to find her hubby fraternizing with Monique. It wasn’t the first time that had happened. “No, I’m fine, really. Mille grazie.” She thanked him as she looked into his eyes, their depth making her off balance as well as her having only one shoe on and the way he called her Signorina. The word slipping from his mouth like silk. Just tell me where I am, that would be very helpful,” she shifted her weight to the shoeless foot and immediately dropped down a few inches, making her even shorter against his tall stature. Calle Ostreghe,” he said the name of the street as she dipped her head down to remove her other shoe. “See much better,” she said, now even footed in her stocking feet, now firmly planted on the cool stones. But her words were met by empty space. The man was gone as quickly as he’d appeared, the swish of his long coat disappearing through the crowds, barely visible around the corner as Monique looked on as if it had been an apparition. A tall handsome apparition. And one that was seemingly desperate to get away from her before his wife showed up. Lucky woman having a man like that.

Book Name: The Pinch of the Game
 Publisher: Dreamspinner Press
Cover Artist: AngstyG
Release Date: June 24, 2015
Blurb:

Being a witch doesn’t mean one can beat the devil forever.

Jeffrey Overton, unemployed IT professional turned poker player, pushes his luck once too often and runs afoul of the host of an illegal card club. The man sent to escort Jeffrey to a “meeting” about his supernatural winning streak arrives at Jeffrey’s crappy North Portland apartment, lock-picking tools in hand and a charm to block Jeffrey’s magick.

Head muscle for said host, Mike Wells, is a Daisy from Daisyville. He isn’t a witch. What he lacks in magickal talent he makes up for in brawn, so he doesn’t expect the guy he’s after to overpower him. But once Mike renders Jeffrey helpless, he’d rather seduce him than bring him in.

Jeffrey and Michael ditch the “meeting” and end up hunting some of the same people they ran from, trying to get Jeffrey back into his own body. And that’s only part of the adventure. The pair travel halfway across the country on the quietest road trip in history and find missing people, empire-building witches, and maybe even the families they’d both thought lost to them.

Excerpt:
If Sal had sent someone after me, a short trip up to Seattle might be a good idea, maybe even BC. That called for some new clothes, so I grabbed my battered gym bag—my quick escape kit—and was almost home free when the kitchen door burst open. It would’ve been dumb to turn off the light when the goomba first went to work on the lock—I can’t see any better in the dark than your average Daisy, not when I’m blocked. Once that massive body filled the doorway, I wished I had. Wished I’d done something.
He hesitated, barely a moment, and I bolted for the front door. He grabbed me before I made it out of the kitchen and pinned both of my arms to my sides. It wouldn’t work, I knew that, but I still tried to burn his hands. All I needed was enough time to—fuck, is he laughing?
“Give it up, pretty boy. You’re blocked.”
The big man pushed me against the wall face-first and pulled both hands behind my back.
“Hey, wait a sec, big guy. Let’s talk about this. I can—”
He pushed me flat against the wall, and the rest of that sentence disappeared in the rush of air he squeezed from my lungs. I couldn’t help being turned on, even though pain and domination usually aren’t my thing. Neither are bears, but underneath the padding he felt nice and solid, leaning full against me. He tightened a plastic zip tie around my wrists with shaking hands. And then he held me there.
