Welcome Kate Hill & Win an e-book Giveaway

Please give a warm welcome to author Kate Hill who graciously sat down to answer some of my burning questions for her. *grins*....so take it away Kate!

To get us started can you tell us a little about what you are working on or have coming out?

On July 17th my erotic Viking romance, Northman’s Pleasure, is scheduled to release. It’s the sequel to Northman’s Passion and focuses on Grim and Asgerd who were introduced in the first book. Grim has been sent to rescue Asgerd, his king’s daughter, who has been abducted by the brutal warrior Stein. Asgerd has admired Grim for a long time, but he has never shown an interest in her. Grim has definitely noticed her, but because of his past he doesn’t want to fall in love. When the king offers him Asgerd’s hand in marriage, he refuses at first, but when he rescues her, he can’t resist taking her as his wife.

How do you get yourself in the mood to write?

I like to listen to music and look at inspiring pictures. That usually gets me in the mood for a story. I also come up with most of my outlines that way.

Are your characters able to love or do they need to be taught?

Some are able to love, but others need to be taught. Grim is an example of one who needed to be taught, mostly due to his childhood. It takes him a long time to trust people, in particular women. Until meeting Asgerd, he didn’t think love was a good thing, but looked at it as a way for people to control others.

Coffee, tea or other drink to get you moving in the morning?

For me a drink doesn’t get me started. I like peanut butter on toast.

When you begin your stories, do you go with the flow, or go with an outline?

I like to work with a loose outline. I need to know where I’m going in the story, but I also like to make room for the inevitable changes and additions that happen when I’m doing the actual writing.

Is there any books coming that you are itching to read (either electronic or print)from your favorite authors?

I’ve just started reading the Men of Valor series by Kiru Taye. I’m on the second story now and looking forward to the next one.

Is music a factor for you while you are writing? Do certain songs put you in the right frame of mind to write certain stories?

I love listening to music when I’m working on the first draft of a story. When I’m proof reading or working on edits, however, I prefer complete quiet. The music I listen to definitely changes depending on the story I’m writing. If the music doesn’t fit my idea of the story, it’s difficult for me to concentrate and I end up thinking about another type of story that would better fit the music. This reminds me of an incident from a long time ago when my brother and I were in our teens. At the time I was working on a medieval fantasy story and he was practicing heavy metal guitar. In my mind at least the two didn’t mesh. That’s when I started using ear phones when I write. It became a habit and to this day I still prefer working with ear phones.
