Hop Against Homophobia Tour Stop/Contest

Welcome to the Hop Against Homophobia & Transphobia. This runs from May 17th-27th and many places are involved as well as a ton of prizes to be given away.

You can follow the hop at http://hopagainsthomophobia.blogspot.com/

May 17th is also International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia. You can find out more about this day at http://dayagainsthomophobia.org/

My post this year is about acceptance. I know many gay/trans/lesbian people who I count as friends and as a mom, I try to install acceptance on being different to my children. They see me interact with my gblt friends and see how normal they are, that they are just like you and me, that to them, they don't see any difference between people who are straight and those who are gay/trans, etc. We live in a world where intolerance is growing more loudly as you see in the news everyday. But I also see acceptance as well. From friends who are finally admit they are gay/lesbian/transgender and that they get much love and acceptance when they do. For myself, I want to have my kids know that love and acceptance is more than a pat on the back, it is also about action they may do towards others. I hope that at age 13 and 9 they have the foundation that being different is nothing to scream in horror about but to embrace, to love and show the world how proud you are of who you are. Acceptance begins with you first before it trickles down to others. This world is crazy enough....can't we stop the hate and just embrace being different?

My prize giveaway is a $15 All Romance e-book gift card. All you need to do is follow my blog as well as leave a comment with your email address included so in case you win I have a way to contact you. The contest is open internationally and winner will be chosen May 28th and announced on my blog as well as my twittter and facebook page.

I think alowing kids to continue to accept the world in all its colours is important - trying to halt that call for conformity as they go into secondary education

I had a friend that was homophobic. Sadly, she always said that "because her mom said"--"because her dad said"..
and I always felt so very sad that... she just never had a chance. It was put into her head since she was little. She was never able to make her own choice, see in her ours how natural any kind of love is just right.
I'm lucky that my parents never told us that this or that couple was abnormal. They were just happy. and that was all that mattered.

I so wish that that was something everyone would let their kids decide. It's sad that a lot more kids are pretty much brainwashed by their parents hate to be able to come up with their own views of life. It's sad that they never had a chance. but I still hope that one day, especially now, that more and more people will see that nothing is wrong that everything is just right in love.

Thanks for the great post. Sometimes it surprised me how many people don't seem to know how to just accept people for who they are inside. None of the other stuff matters; we're all human beings. We all love and hurt and laugh and cry.

Thanks for your insightful post on acceptance. I've always tried to instill this in my children as well. Acceptance goes a long way when someone needs support. They've taken that brave step to be themselves. The least we can do is show support.

I'm a GFC follower. Thanks for being a part of the hop. I think that the problem is that most people can't be content, they always have to have something to complain about.
